May Day

Hey hey. Happy May! Where the heck did April go? The older I get, the faster the calender turns. It's a fact.

New month, new hair. :> Well, not really brand new, just a touch up.

Karlyn finished up with swim lessons yesterday and I'm so proud of her! She did really well, participating in each class and a had a great time. We usually go on Tue/Thur but the pool was closed today so they switched to Wednesday. She was the only kid to show up so she got a private lesson. :> I think she will miss going!

I also had my ultrasound yesterday to check and see how my body is responding to Clomid. The sono tech was the same girl we'd seen with Karlyn and with pregnancy #3. (We never had one with #2) I hadn't had a sonogram (ultrasound/sonogram...I guess those words are interchangeable?) since our last one a year ago so it was kinda weird. BUT. I didn't cry while I was there and that is a big step. That's probably in part because I got good news! Followed up by more good news today. :-) They told me that "everything looks good." I got further details....but I'm keeping those to myself. They had nothing negative to say; it was all positive which makes me very happy. I'll be honest though. For some reason, last night I got very down. Even though I got a good report, I was feeling impatient. Doubtful. Scared. Tired of it all. I thought, "why should this month be any different than the last twelve?" This morning I woke up a bit (PP!) happier though and after I got a follow-up call from the doctor's office, I was even better. I read these verses:

"Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?" ~ Luke 12:25-26

Easy to read. Hard to do. But it's true. Worrying gives me something to DO. And that's the honest truth. Am I truly making a difference in my situation by sitting and fretting about it? Imagining possible scenarios...both good and bad? No. What else can I do? Pray about it. Trust. Recall all the ways God has led me and provided and BLESSED in the past. It's not something I'm good at and it stretches my faith. It's a journey.

That's all for now I guess. I'm optimistic and hopeful. And happy it was hair day. :)

Kid-to-Kid ~ Summer Clothes Haul

I love Kid-to-Kid. I know I've said that before but I really, really do! It's so fun to look through the store and find gently used clothes, shoes, and toys for your kiddo. They sell maternity clothes too so I totally took advantage of that when I was pregnant with Karlyn. They offer cash or store credit when you bring in items to sell and also have a punch card system that earns you 20% off your purchase. They'll have sales where regular or clearance priced items are an extra percentage off and then the savings really add up.

Yesterday I went by on my lunch hour because Karlyn needed some shorts and more warm weather clothes. Even though Spring is just barely upon us, I like to be prepared because Texas can be 40 degrees one day and 80 the next! Plus I don't know why, but I really enjoy switching out her clothes between seasons. I think it's the organizer in me (or the one who used to live there) that loves the whole process. And let's be honest. Little girl clothes are just cute. :>

So...what did I get?

  • 11 shirts
  • 8 shorts
  • 1 skirt

$80! That was also taking $5.00 off because I spent enough. *Hint, Hint ~ There's a code you can text once you're at the register when you've spent more than $30.00.

Two of the shirts I got were brand new with tags still on and the great thing about Kid-to-Kid is that they are usually picky with the items they accept. So everything was in good to great condition and PERFECT for daycare. Here's the thing. My child is going to paint on, spill juice on, and run around the dusty playground in these clothes so I really don't see the need to spend insane amounts of money. Now of course we have separate clothes for church and going out that I don't let her wear to school so they stay nice. Same with shoes. She has school shoes and other shoes because I've seen first-hand the destruction that can happen there!

Cheery & Bright!
I usually don't pick out "outfits" while I'm there but I kept finding things that went together or that I knew would match items she already had at home. Brands included Gap, The Children's Place, and Carter's. I was really pleased with my purchase! Here are three of the outfits I like best~

They had these two pieces on display together so I snatched it up. =)

Karlyn loves skirts and twirling so I think she'll love it! I'm probably saving it for an Easter basket.

Sometimes resale shops are hit or miss so if you don't find much the first time, wait a bit and try again! What about you? Do you shop resale? What are you favorite places?

Thump, Thud, Crash

My child fell down the stairs.

I'm surprised it hasn't happened before now but not as surprised as when I heard the thumpity-thud of her almost-three year old body rolling down the stairs. We had both been upstairs together when I heard it and realized she'd gone down. My immediate thought? I would find her at the bottom of the stairs unconscious. :-0 I know, I know. But I just didn't know what to expect.

My father-in-law, mother-in-law, Ryan, and I all rushed over to the stairs at the same time with Ryan's dad getting there first. I think he stopped her before she got to the bottom and THANK THE LORD she was just fine. No bumps. No bruises. Only a little crying. But give a mom a heart attack!

now that we know my child is ok...

Let's talk purses. What do you like? I've been carrying a grey suede-ish bag for the past few winters and it's super roomy / I can't find anything inside because it all falls to the bottom. I like it but am a bit tired of it.

Then I got this cross-body purse at Kohl's the other day for 50% off. I liked it immediately but can't decide now. I do like it but I kind of want something bigger...maybe. BUT small is nice because it forces you to condense, you find things (lots of pockets!) and it's less wear and tear on the shoulder. Over-analyze much?

So. yeah. Then tonight I find out that Charming Charlie is online. Yeesh. They have cute purses. What's a girl to do?

Hey! Jenna at Eat, Live, Run is hosting a giveaway for one more day. You can enter to win a Birchbox Limited Edition Snow Day Box. Complete with cute socks and travel Scrabble.

One more day of work for me tomorrow and then we close on Thursday.   Woo.   Hoo.

I'm so glad the weather is going to cooperate too. Icy? Cold? Drizzle? Bring it.

What To Wear Wednesday

So I attempted to copy a Pinterest look I'd seen that actually came off this site. It's comfy! I'm a little unsure of how to dress Karlyn these days since we wake up to 50/60 degree weather and end up in the 80's. She's got some cute fall clothes tucked away but it's not quite time for corduroy and long sleeves. Today she had leggings like mommy!

What we wore~

Kati: Stretchy striped top (Jane), Leggings (Target) Blue sheer top (Target - clearance!) Sandals (Kohl's - clearance!)

Karlyn: T-Shirt (Walmart), Denim heart skirt (Old Navy), Lace Leggings (Target), Sandals (Kid-to-Kid)

Of course, on par for the week, there were no smiles. Such is life with a 2 year old! Daddy dressed up today too for picture day. Ha. He's having his photo taken at work for his profile. :-)

Happy Wednesday!

*excuse the poor-quality, rushed iPhone photos :>

That day I bought shoes

Sometimes I'm spontaneous. And impulsive.

Sometimes I tell myself I'm going to work out for "X" number of days and reward myself with cool new shoes but then I decide I need new shoes now, so I go try them on right after work even though I'm wearing a dress.

I'm cool like that.

Sometimes you gotta follow your heart urge. And my urge was telling me I would have far more productive/FUN workouts with new shoes.

The sales guy was super helpful and after I explained what I was looking for (NOT a pure running shoe but more of a light cross-trainer) he watched me walk and then pulled out a few pairs for me to try on. Amazingly enough, it only took about thirty minutes and five-ish pairs to decide what I wanted. Eek!

I was leaving the area but saw a store called "Natural Grocers" that a friend had recommended so I thought I might as well stop in. It was a nice sized health food store essentially and I picked up several items.

Karlyn and I sampled a macaroon and while I thought they were really yummy, she wasn't convinced. I think it was the coconut texture. I had heard of the "Hail Merry" brand before and Natural Grocers had more of their products that I'd love to try! Check out the ingredients~ NOM NOM.

I guess I should show you the shoes huh?! I really like 'em and today I broke them in with their first gym workout. They did well. :>

A bit LOUD aren't they? =) That's what I wanted though so they fit the bill. They're actually the same brand of the last shoes I bought - Saucony. I know some people might think it's silly to get fitted for gym shoes but since I have the highest arches known to man and I want to make sure I'm getting exactly what I want/need for the money I'm going to pay, it makes sense. Jeans shopping and shoe shopping...I take both seriously.

Today was August workout #3 for me. It felt good.

Here's to keepin' on!

Glamour BB

Wow!!!  Birchbox knocked it out of the park this month with it's Glamour special edition box.  I love it!  Everything I opened today was so fun!  Here's a peek:

Isn't it pretty??!

I also got an e-mail a few days ago with a 20% off coupon for being a Birchbox member now for 6 months.  Sweet!  That 20% combined with points for reviewing products comes in very handy :>

I can't wait to use these at the gym.  I'm hoping they stay in my ears better than some others I have...

Color Club nail polish.  So cute!

stila lip glaze.  It has gold shimmer!

I'm pretty sure this box was in my mailbox yesterday when hubby checked the mail upon returning home.  Because our mail from today just arrived.  Guess he didn't look all the way in!

Also inside was~

*BB cream (like an all-in-one spf make-up)
*perfume
*green tea & citrus mints

I love getting these boxes.  Fun!

Girls Date and Sea Spray!

Ryan rarely travels for work but this past Friday he got the chance to go with a co-worker to Minnesota for the day.  Karlyn and I got home yesterday after work and a doctor's appointment and after washing the dishes that just won't go away (yes, the dishwasher is still broken) I was in a pickle.  I was hungry but didn't want to cook.  Duh.  More dishes.  But I felt too lazy to go eat somewhere.  And...we were still two hours out from a little girl's bedtime and... there's only so much Sprout tv I can watch.  We put on our shoes and headed to McAllister's.  I love that place!  It's so much better to me than Jason's deli.  I got a huge chef's salad and ordered a side of mac'n'cheese for Kar.  It gave me some energy and was delicious!

What girl's night out is complete without a trip to Target?  I could live at that store.  I originally went in for the following item:

nail polish

But I left with the following items:

nail polish remover, a spray bottle, two pairs of little girl shoes - on clearance!, one pair of big girl shoes - on clearance!, and - the nail polish. =)

Are those shoes not adorable?!  Seriously.  I got two pairs for her for the price of one, or less!  We took some pics in the booth after we ate.  Love her.

So I needed the spray bottle for a specific use.  I ran across something on Pinterest that I actually decided to make.  I had all the ingredients for it so I thought, hey, why not?  The "recipe" comes from this site and I. AM. IN. LOVE.!  I mixed it all up in my new handy dandy spray bottle, wet my hair in the shower, sprayed away, and then diffused with my dryer.  Wanna see???

I even used it again this morning after brushing it out and sleeping on it last night.  I sprayed some on dry hair and just scrunched with my fingers before running to the store.  Ryan liked it :>  It's VERY inexpensive to make and you know what's in it.  I have a feeling this is going to be my summer/I'm running late for work/it's too dang hot/go to hairstyle.  My hair was also not freshly washed the first time I used it.  I think that helps, as does a diffuser.  But try it without too!

I loaded a new app on my phone a while back and finally played around with it this morning.  It's called, "Pic Collage" and is so fun.  I made the above picture using it and the one below.  The nail polish I picked out at Target is one I had seen a friend wear on facebook and I really like this brand.  It went on well and the color makes me happy. :-)

It was an unexpected fun Friday night!

Bonus: my father-in-law came over today and finished repairing my bathroom sink/faucet.  Hooray!  I now owe him a pan of gluten-free brownies.
