What have I gotten myself into?!

Oh, you know me.  Always up for some craziness and a good challenge.  Even though I love my routine, I'm also a sucker for a little sponteneity and I LOVE all things healthy food and workout related.  Enter...

Have you ever heard of CrossFit?  I had, a good while back and then I forgot about it.  A month or so ago, I saw a girl I used to go to church with on facebook and she was into CrossFit.  IS into CrossFit.  And she looks freakin fantastic!  I know it's a good workout program and I would love to get involved and join our local gym, but it's quite a bit more than my LA Fitness membership and I'm not even going up there much for lack of childcare.

CrossFit follows what I've also only heard briefly about and that is the Paleo Diet.  I've done a little more research into it and still have a lot to learn but I like what I read so far.  If you know anything about it, you know there's an emphasis on protein, or MEAT.  Didn't I just do a "meatless month" not long ago?  Yes I did.  I didn't even finish the month though.  To be honest, I started feeling kinda crappy.  Kinda craving meat.  I like meat.

If you're interested, you can read more about CrossFit and the Paleo diet here and here.  I'm going to be doing this challenge with my friend and co-worker Michelle.  Michelle actually took over my job when I went out on maternity leave!  She is a sweet heart and I am excited to do this with her.

Here are the specifics.  I'll get even more info at the kick-off seminar tomorrow night at 7:00.

33 days.  From October 10th - November 12th.  You blog (on their site) what you eat each day.  You record any "cheating" too...

You can't have: Salt.  Sugar.  Anything Processed.

You can have: Meat.  Veggies.  Fruit.  Sweet Potato.  Eggs.  Seeds.  Nuts.  Almond Butter.  Spices.

Do I think I might die?  Oh yes.  :-o  I like my sugar!  And my carbs!  And my CEREAL.  Seriously.  That's my nighttime snack.

So why am I doing this?

I like challenges and like exploring new ways of eating that might make me feel better, look better, get stronger, and have more energy.  If something's not working (no meat) I have no problem switching gears!

I eat too much sugar.  No, I'm not a sugar-holic (is that a word) but I do have a huge sweet tooth.

I need to eat more vegetables and less crunchy granola bars.

This is my passion. Health and fitness.  I want to be the healthiest wife and mom I can be, for my quality of life and for my family's sake.

. . . . .

I'll post more info over the weekend as I prepare for this.  What in the world have I gotten myself into?!  I have a feeling I'll quickly be asking that.

My parents are so into CrossFit and have done this challenge. I tell them they're crazy all the time, but it's really because I wish they would've made us eat healthier when we were kids so I might've had better eating habits today, lol.

Anyway, they both look amazing, and they say it's not that hard once you get used to it.

Shoot, I'd be doing good to just stop consuming so much sugar. (Which Matt and I have been talking about A LOT.) I'll worry about the rest of the processed stuff after that.

Can't wait to see how this goes for you!

Heather, that's awesome! I so wish I could join the gym, but maybe later after kids...and when we're rich. HA!

I hear ya on the sugar. I don't want Karlyn to grow up thinking she needs something sweet after every meal like her mother...eek.

I'll definitely be posting on how it goes. And asking for moral support!

You can totally do it. And kati...you already look FREAKINMG AMAZING FABULOUS!!!!! Seriously....you're one hot to trot mom.For a couple weeks before I went back to work, Dave and I really amped up the fruits and veggies. Even that small change made me feel a ton better. It's just too hard to maintain at work right now. I'll be interested to see how it works out for you. Good luck!

Thanks Karen! And thanks for the compliment :> I really just want to FEEL better so much more than looking a certain way. I want to have as much energy as I possibly can and fuel myself right. But like you said, it can be hard and time consuming...
