Spring Cleaning - On the Inside

I've been thinking about fresh starts. Detoxing. Getting re-focused. Feeling better.

Eating less sugar. Working out. Kicking junk to the curb.

Spring is a natural time to do that right? This morning I squeezed lemon into a mug from our office kitchen and filled it with hot water from the Keurig machine. Imagine my surprise then when I opened an e-mail and saw that very drink as step #1 in "4 Incredibly Simple Ways to Detox." Here were the others~

Feeling sluggish, heavy, and ready to lighten up?

These 4 tips are some of my favorite, easy (yet highly effective) tricks that will help you naturally detox, boost your energy, and trim you down!

1) Start your day with a mug of hot water with a generous squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Lemons are nature's detoxers, and they work to cleanse the body's impurities -- especially in the liver. Lemon juice can also be helpful in alleviating heart burn or nausea. Hot water helps stimulate our digestive system and assists in removing built up deposits in our nervous system. Together, lemon juice and hot water are a magical combo.

2) Cut way back on the sugar. Over-consumption of sugar can lead to permanent blood sugar imbalance, which can lead to diabetes. Sugar is also known to create mood swings, crankiness, low energy (post-sugar high), and lead to excessive weight gain. Stick to naturally sweet things like fruits and sweet veggies (such as sweet potatoes, squash, and carrots). And choose natural, gentle sweeteners like maple syrup or coconut sugar when you need a little sweet fix.

3) Eat your veggies. You'd be surprised how cleansing, slimming, filling, and energizing a veg-filled diet can be. Up the amount of vegetables in your diet each day and you'll be sure to see positive, glowing results in your skin, mood, and weight.

Visualize and breathe. Sometimes it's our thoughts that make us feel toxic and heavy. Being too critical of ourselves or others can take its toll on our overall health. Try to spend a few moments each day in total acceptance of yourself and where you're at. Visualize good health, happiness, and joy in your life. Another feel-good activity: Take a few moments each day to practice the simple act of deep breathing and just notice how much better you feel afterward! The results are immediate.

Number 2 is where I struggle. At least half the time. You know when it's easy to say you're going to stop eating sugar? While you're still eating sugar!

My plan is to get it out of the house though because if it's not here, I can't eat it.

*Do you have any plans to SPRING into better health?*
