Brownies and Nap Training

I've been wanting to make these.  I finally had all the ingredients and what better day to whip up a batch of from scratch brownies than day 1 of nap training in the crib.  Today is day 2.

It was worth it though.  They are scrumptious.  I'm not sure what happened, but since I've had a baby, my baking skills seem to have gone south.  I used an 8x8 square pan when the recipe calls for a 9 inch but other than that I followed the recipe to a tee I thought.  They're called "Salted fudge brownies" and mine were most assuredly fudgy.  Batter like, if you will.  But with brownies, is that really a bad thing?  Isn't the batter the best part anyways?  I have to admit, whenever I mix up some Duncan Hines, I'm kind of sad once I've licked the bowl and all that's left to look foward to is the actual brownie.

Seriously though, I really like these.  And they'd even be good without the salt if that scares you.

Ryan liked them too!  You don't taste the salt in every bite and it doesn't take away from the rich chocolatey~ness of these.  Now I just have to ration them out...ya know, so they last on into days 3 & 4.

Nap Training.

Like I mentioned in Karlyn's 3 month update, I have got to get her sleeping in her crib.  Yesterday she napped for about 25 minutes, and then spent the next hour on and off crying, while I intermittently went in to check on her and give her the pacifier.  Then it was time to eat again.  Today:

Nap 1 - 26 minutes

Nap 2 - 9 minutes

Nap 3 - 28 minutes...AND COUNTING!

Not too shabby!  I'll take it.  My advice to new mommies?  Get your baby used to their crib early.  No, not at the very beginning if you don't want to traipse across the house every hour but sometime before they're 15 weeks :-)

Today after work I headed up to the hospital near my office to visit Lyndsey and William and see their new baby Liam!  Liam is SUCH a cutie and weighs 7 lbs.  That's only 6 ounces less than Karlyn weighed but he felt sooo light!  It was crazy.  I told my mom, it was like holding nothing!  Granted, I now hold a 13 lb + ? ( I have no idea how much she's gained since her 2.5 month appt where she was 12 lbs, 2.5 ounces) baby every day who I dubbed "an amorphous blob of baby" to my friend Amanda today. :> I love her little chunky self though.  Even more when she naps in her crib! ha.

I'm hoping to get to the gym today for a workout.  I went Sunday and Monday and then skipped yesterday.  Since Karlyn is napping, maybe my mother-in-law will enjoy a nice pleasant visit with her granddaughter while I lift some weights.

Happy Hump Day!

Meagan is starting off in her crib from day/night #1. I figure that since I'm still used to getting up at night with Makayla, it won't be too big of a deal for me to go in Meagan's room to nurse her, then put her back in her crib. I do still have Makayla's cradle though, so if my plan doesn't work as smoothly as I'm thinking it will, Meagan can still sleep in our room for a while if need be! :-) Good job on getting Karlyn to sleep in her crib now!!!

We had the same nap struggles with M, so made sure B napped in his crib from very early on. It's amazing all you learn the first time that helps the 2nd time go smoother. You're doing great, Kati!

And I only like brownies if they are super rich and fudgy. Those look about perfect. LOL
