My 1st review and giveaway!

Well, you guessed right!

I decided to try and review McDonald's new "Fruit & Maple Oatmeal!"

I was up at 6:30 feeding the youngster and even though I reallly felt like going back to bed, I decided against it and headed up to the Golden Arches once I'd finished.  Ryan was half asleep on the couch as I proceeded to tell him where I was going.  "I know," he said.  "You're going to do a giveaway and review that McDonald's oatmeal."  I was impressed that he had read my blog!

I threw on some tennis shoes with my pajama pants and came home with this little lovely.  I decided to use their spoon...you know, to get the full experience.

I liked it!

Here are my notes:

* It's instant oats, not your thicker old-fashioned kind.

* It's sweet, but not TOO sweet.  It didn't taste like they had dumped a ton of sugar in it.

*It's chocked full of red and green apples, cranberries, and golden and regular raisins.

* It was pretty filling.  It would definitely get you through a couple hours into your morning and is a nice portion size.

* You could make this at home.  But, if you're out and about and need a healthy-ish breakfast or snack, go for it!  You could make worse choices.

[caption id="attachment_1590" align="alignnone" width="500" caption="Breakfast!"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1592" align="alignnone" width="500" caption="Can you taste it? :>"][/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1593" align="alignnone" width="500" caption="CAUTION. HOT! It WAS still warm when I got it home..."][/caption]

You get:

290 calories. 4.5 grams of total fat. 57 grams of carbs. 5 grams of fiber! 32 grams of sugar (I think some of this has GOT to be from the fruit. That's a lot of sugar.) 5 grams of protein.

I kept eating it, so it couldn't have been that bad :)  This was not as good as what I'd make at home.  Old fashioned oats...throw in some peanut butter...cinnamon.  But like I said, not a bad choice if you're on the go.  I'm not a McDonald's advocate but why not commend them for trying to add a health-IER choice?  The bag says the oatmeal is swirled with light cream and brown sugar.  I think I could taste the cream.  It had a nice, pleasant flavor and I would buy this again.  For $2.15, the price is definitely right!

I kept eating it.

So.  What do ya think?  Do you want to try some??  :--)

Here's what to do!  For my 1st ever blog giveaway, I'll be mailing $5 worth of McDonald's give certificates to one lucky winner.  That will buy you 2 oatmeals, should you so choose.  Of course you don't have to spend it on that if you don't want to :>  To enter, comment on THIS POST and tell me something about oatmeal...

What's your favorite way to eat it?  Do you even like it?  Is oatmeal in your regular breakfast rotation?

I'll tally up the comments from the weekend and on Monday will use a random integer chooser thing :-) to pick a winner.

So comment away!  And happy weekend :-)

Haha, is it weird that I totally thought of you when I saw that they were selling this? Of course, this is when I was ordering my Tues/Thurs sausage biscuit after dropping Avery off at MDO. Sigh.

I do love me some oatmeal though! I'm kinda lame in that I usually just eat some Quaker instant maple and brown sugar (2 packs because I'm a hungry girl in the mornings!). I should start adding some fruit though.

Props on venturing out to do a giveaway!

Hey! Great review, my mom was raving to me about McD's oatmeal the other day. I'd love to try it out. Have you heard that oats are good for lactation? For that reason I've been trying to eat oats as much as possible this past month.

Hi, Kati! I tried their new fruit and oatmeal on Thursday and I liked it! Since I am always on the go, AND I'm your favorite aunt on your dad's side AND you know I eat oatmeal everyday, I will eagerly await the gift card. :)
Just kidding.
Great review. Love you!

Hi Kati! I'm glad you are blogging more. I love reading it!!!

After reading all the previous posts, I definitely add the worst thing to my oatmeal...pure cane sugar! And usually a little milk because I can never get the consistency right from the start. I'll blame the sugar on my great grandmother, since that's how she used to fixed it. It was pretty much syrup when she served it to us. I'm not quite that bad. I need to try and add something else to sweeten it up. I'm not a huge PB fan, but adding that and cinnamon sounds really good. I'll try that next time!

My favorite wayZ to eat oatmeal are:
Fresh apples (cut super small and thin) and cinn.
or
Bananas!!
The bananas are what I put in Eleina's oatmeal. I just smash them and mix them with the old fashioned oats and we both go to town! :) MMmmmm.

We LOVE oatmeal! We eat oatmeal about every other day. :) Yummo. I have pretty been a fan forever and SUPER fan when I was pregnant!! Holy Moly, I couldn't get enough when I was preg. I, lol, wanted to snack on it uncooked. Really!!?? What's up with that. Weird! :)

Love your blogs. Wish I would make myself do something like this! :) Little Karlyn will have fun reading these someday! :)
