Goals
My husband loves the Dilbert comic so I got him a 2010 Dilbert desk calendar last Christmas; occasionally he'll read me the funny ones. I thought this one was pretty good and goes along with my post today about GOALS. I tried to source the page I got it from but it woudn't let me create the link.? **And do you have to source all images pulled from the internet? What's the rule on that?**
I can never keep my New Years Resolutions and while I didn't set any in stone for this year, I did jot down some goals I'd like to achieve, or at least start working on. I think it's important to set goals and have things you are working towards. I am such a task oriented person that I go bonkers if I don't have something to do. Yes I love my relax time (hot bath + ice cream) but I also like staying busy and seeing progress. It's a blessing and a curse and may have something to do with me not being able to shut my mind off to sleep. So here, in random order, are my 10 goals for 2011.
1 Grow my hair out - So this is a silly one to start with I guess but I want longer hair! The longest mine has been was when Ryan and I got married back in 2007. I've had it short(er) ever since and always chop it off because I get tired of the growing out process. I want to be able to pull it back in a ponytail or curl it...maybe this will be my year :>
2 Run a 5-K race - I walked during my pregnancy but my running days have seen a lengthy hiatus. I love competing and training for an event so I would really like to run a 5-K maybe sometime this summer. I'm going to take it slow and steady and build up some walking endurance before I start jogging though.
3 Try 1 new recipe a week - This sounds easy in theory but you'd be surprised how often we eat the same darn things. How hard could it be to make ONE new meal a week? I guess I'll find out.
4 Blog 3x a week - I'm blogging every day this week to see how I like it so my goal of blogging 3 times a week is taking into account the fact that I'll be returning to work. I'm hoping I will still have time to blog because I really really love it.
5 Write 1 card/letter to family or friends 1x a week - I like to write! And I've wanted for a while now to spend time keeping in touch with my siblings and friends; I just haven't made it a priority. How long does it take to write in a cute card and mail it?
6 Work out 3x a week - Again, I'm planning for this to be daily but I'm setting the bar lower so I can hopefully achieve it! Even if it's a 10 minute walk around the block, I want to do something active every day. I also want to improve my upper body strength and be able to do a few real pull-ups!
7 Read my Bible every day - No excuse not to do this and again comes down to what I make a priority. I need that daily encouragement, refreshment, and sometimes rebuking.
8 Gain 5 lbs...of muscle! - Yes, I would like to gain a little bit of weight. Preferrably muscle of course :> I don't have a certain number I'm shooting for as far as weight. And maybe pregnancy changed how I view myself, but I would really like to have a good solid 5 more pounds on me, like I said, of MUSCLE!
9 Start couponing! - Now that we're a family of 3, I need to find ways to save more money. My mother was the queen of couponing and I'm sure she'd be happy to share some tips with me. I bought a Sunday newspaper last week for the coupons...I've yet to cut them out.
10 Eat more veggies - Ryan and I eat fairly healthy and I know while pregnant, I kind-of ate whatever I wanted. I still do for the most part but I know there is a lot of room for improvement in my diet. It's so easy to grab convenience pre-packaged snacks when I'm tired and starving but it's also not hard to keep the veggie drawer in the fridge stocked with vegetables I can chop up and snack on. Of course, with some Ranch, to help out with goal number 8 ;)
So those are my aspirations for this year. I may not reach all 10 of them because lets face it - I have a newborn and these days, taking a shower is an accomplishment. Maybe that should have been #11. SHOWER EVERY DAY! ha.
Do you have any goals for the new year? Are you great at saving money?! Please share your tips!
**Please pray for me also - and Ryan. Still having challenges with the little one and figuring out what's going on with her!**

Great goals- especially about putting on muscle. You are in my thoughts!
I'm so with you on growing your hair out! It takes forever. I've been working on mine for almost a year. If you can (not sure how it affects nursing) take Super Potency Biotin, it helps with hair and nail growth/strength so much.
I started the goal of one new recipe a week too!!! We've had some really good meals so far, but it is a LOT more difficult than I thought it would be.
I forgot about Biotin...I was taking that for a while. I'll have to start back up! Maybe we can swap recipe ideas :>
I'm so with you on writing notes and cards. I love to do it and it makes things more personal. And I should probably do that eat more veggies thing to :)
