I heard this song while driving home from work today and it really spoke to me. I'd heard it before but today I turned it up and really listened to the words. Amy Grant sings it. Throwback! I used to have her Christmas casette tape and LOVED it. Anyways, the song talks about how our frustration, cries, and sorrow are often "better than a hallelujah."
Have you ever sat down and really poured out your heart? Maybe to a friend, as a prayer, or just out loud, alone in your room. Gosh, I know I have. I tend to be a very emotional person. Sometimes that's good. Sometimes not so good. It's not very hard for me to get worked up, stressed out, and wear all my emotions on my sleeve. I can't tell you how many times I've prayed the same prayer, over and over and over. Someone told me, God is big enough to handle our doubts. He's big enough to hear us voice our frustrations and anger. Um, He knows what we're thinking anyways...right? Why not go ahead and tell him?
This song describes our cries as a melody. I like that. I like that God can take what we see as broken and worn down and turn it into something beautiful. Our lives become a song back to Him, orchestrated by Him. What could be better than that?
God loves a lullaby
In a mothers tears in the dead of night
Better than a Hallelujah sometimes.
God loves the drunkards cry,
The soldiers plea not to let him die
Better than a Hallelujah sometimes.
We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody
Beautiful the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts
Are better than a Hallelujah.
The woman holding on for life,
The dying man giving up the fight
Are better than a Hallelujah sometimes
The tears of shame for what's been done,
The silence when the words won't come
Are better than a Hallelujah sometimes.
We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody
Beautiful the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts
Are better than a Hallelujah
Better than a church bell ringing,
Better than a choir singing out, singing out.
We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody
Beautiful the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts
Are better than a Hallelujah
Better than a church bell ringing
better than a choir singin' loud
singin' loud

I love how the Lord uses music to minister to me too! Monday I wrote a post about a song I've heard a million times, but Monday morning, it was like I was hearing it with new ears.. and it was exactly what I needed to hear.
It is so awesome to me that God cares so much about me that He'll play a song on the radio.. right when I need to hear it.
I LOVE this song! The first time I heard it was on a day I found out we weren't pregnant that month and it put me in tears. I think it is so true God just wants us to be open with him. We can be angry, sad, frustrated, etc as long as we are still reaching out to him and trusting him to make it better.
I love this song too! So glad you posted it. Congrats also on the baby! And I love reading other people's pregnancy/ baby blogs so I will be checking yours often. Post lots of baby bump pics along the way :)
