Oh man, I work up early. Around 5 something to be not exact. But I couldn't go back to sleep and I had a major hankering for some peanut butter french toast. It. was. good. Seriously, make it. I just mix one egg with a little milk, some vanilla and cinnamon and whisk it all up. Soak 2 pieces of whole wheat bread and cook it in a skillet till browned. Smear peanut butter on top and too much agave nectar and stuff it your mouth. Pure ecstasy. :) Jk. But it WAS good.
I caught up on blogs after that while Dodge laid on the blanket I'm using. He is the best. His hair is finally growing out from the near balding he received at the groomers last time so he's starting to look normal again. He loves blankets and getting cozy!
So, let's get to the good stuff shall we? :--)
Yesterday we had our long awaited "anatomical scan." 1:30 and I had been *obviously* looking forward to it all week! Ryan met me at the doctor's office and we waited for the sonographer to call us back. I had eaten lunch about an hour before anddd drank a little bit of orange juice on my way there. I had felt the baby quite a bit that morning so I felt hopeful that he/she would cooperate.
The first thing out of the sonographer's mouth was, "Wow baby, you are in an awkward position!" :/ Eek.
She started to move her magic wand around while Ryan and I sat with baited breath. The baby's head was basically just chilling on my bladder while its legs were up and over the head. Very uncomfortable looking!! J (the sono girl) kept moving around trying to get the baby to switch positions while I told her that I realllly needed to know the gender...we had plans that night! We could clearly see the spine and head and its legs kicking around but J was moving so fast it all looked like blobs to me. It did have a nice steady heart beat of 144 :) Finally after a few minutes she stopped and said, "Ok, you want to know what it is?"
...
IT'S A GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We were like, what? Huh? Where??? :> I think we were both a little shocked. Although Ryan had been repeated telling me that it ws going to be a girl, he had kinda just been trying to mentally prepare himself in case it wasn't a boy :> And I don't know why but I had pretty much convinced myself that it WAS going to be a boy. I had looked at some sports themed baby bedding I really liked and I don't know...I just was thinking BOY! So needless to say, we were a little surprised.
Also. We are going back in 2 weeks for them to re-sono to complete the anatomy checks. Not to confirm the gender per se, but because baby girl was in such a contorted position, J wasn't able to check everything she needed to, officially. But they did say she is about 10 inches long **crown to feet** and weighs 12 ounces :> So there was nothing to be concerned about and everything looked good! J said several times with certaintly, "yeah, it's a girl." But I kept having this nagging, what if you're wrong!? :/ What if I told everyone and their mom that we're having a girl and 2 weeks later, she becomes a he? Ryan keeps telling me it's fine though and we do have pictures which apparently clearly show a lack of boy parts and obvious girly parts.
I am SO EXCITED THOUGH!!! Once it sunk in, I couldn't be more thrilled about knowing my daughter is growing inside me. Ryan is pumped too and knows she'll have him wrapped around his finger ;)
We told our parents last night, although sadly Ryan's dad got called to work late last minute :/ It was so much fun! Ryan and I whipped up a mighty delicious, if I do say so myself, dinner. I should have taken food pics! We had garlic almond crusted chicken, mashed potatoes (with skins on- the only way!), crock pot pinto beans with tomatoes and onion, and a salad made of spinach, romaine, carrots, tomatoes, onion, green and yellow pepper, and cheese.
Here are highlights of the night:
